death by paper cut

{November 21, 2007}   but i’m for real!

for the longest time, friends around me have been poking and prodding me to sign up with facebook so that, “we can keep in touch!”

this reason does not resonate with me because firstly, i am already in contact with these friend who want to keep in contact, secondly, i have my own integrated platform of updates (this blog and my flickr account) which i wouldn’t want to duplicate on facebook, thirdly, my future students will be sure to bug me to add them as friend, fourthly, i don’t care much for its applications or its infamous ability to poke others and finally, i’m in a place in life where i’m not bothered to be reacquainted with long lost friends or friends of friends. in fact, i’ve been deleting contacts off my msn, phone list and have considered deleting my defunct friendster account altogether.

but recently, i came across a worthwhile reason to sign up with facebook and that’s the platform to organize an event and let it sit there and wait for invitees to respond. and invitees do respond because those with facebook can’t seem to tear their face from it.

however, just when i was about to fiddle around (with a fictitious identity), facebook didn’t allow me to. if they don’t believe that someone who was born in 1910 will sign up, why list it as an option?

so nah, i’ll just rsvp the organizer of the event in person and skip the facebook interface.
