death by paper cut

{August 12, 2006}   what comes around, goes around

where have we come since national day rally speech of 2002?

i will return home after graduation not because i am a stayer.

my friends who have migrated also left not because they were quitters.

being aligned with the national ideology, we’re just being pragmatic.

so it follows that as long as singaporeans remain stoically pragmatic, we can’t be patriotic since demanding sacrifice, sentimentality and allegiance, patriotism goes against the grain of logic, common sense and security.

if we want to hone our heartware, we had better rethink our national ideology. the same mettle for survival in the laborious early years is the same driving force behind migration for those who deem it the pragmatic choice.
