The great Anglician theologian of Shakespeare’s day, Richard Hooker

Richard, Hugh M. Shakespeare’s Sexual Comedy: A Mirror for Lovers, USA: The Bobbs-Merrill Company Inc, 1971, pg. 8

in my research for an essay on Shakespeare, i had to take time to chuckle at this irony. imagine listening to Rev. Hooker at the pulpit. perhaps in those times, “hooker” did not refer to “whore” as in our modern day vernacular. in another few centuries, who knows which next word or name might take on a vulgar meaning down the road? maybe your name?
