death by paper cut

{October 7, 2007}   lost and found wanting

schools, offices, public places often have “lost and found” boxes for belongings misplaced by people, waiting to be restored to their owners.

sometimes, people themselves are found in the “lost and found” box too. when you put yourself in that situation, you know that the only way for you to be restored to whoever makes you more complete is not for you to find that someone, but to be sought out.

in other words, being lost is a passive activity. you can have all the desperation in the world, but confined to that box and paralyzed by fear, you have none of the clarity or the ability to seek.
