{April 9, 2011}   Parks and more Parks

i love parks and walking. in singapore, given the humid conditions, scorching heat alternating with heavy downpour and hectic schedules, spending time in the park requires some advanced planning. i.e. planning around food.

three weeks ago (during the march school holidays), i tagged along a morning picnic party at the jacob ballas children’s garden organised by my sister, a cousin and a friend. each had 2 kids in tow.

while the kids toured the children’s garden, picnic mats and food were laid in the nearby gazebo at the bukit timah core of the singapore botanic gardens. fortunately, the gazebo was not occupied and the weather was great. surrounding the gazebo is the eco-lake. the kids fed the water fowl with some bread here.

this is the same area that we held the niece’s 4th birthday party. the nephew was only 1, so he couldn’t do very much then, but he sure made up for lost time this time.

my day at the parks did not end there. i was to meet with fl at canopy dining at bishan park for lunch. the sky was beginning to darken with thick clouds but since our agenda was not to walk the park (which is still overturned with construction work), the impending storm was no deterrence.

canopy dining is part of a wellness hub clustered with restaurants and a spa. the ambiance is lush and cooled with shady greenery and of course helped with fans.

canopy dining is a great place to unwind over a tête-à-tête. the desserts are interesting and pretty satisfying. the mains though are rather disappointing and over priced for its sub-standard quality.

by early afternoon, the rain poured with unreserved gusto. just as well that were in doors. fl and i wistfully continued with lunch / tea that as a result, stretched four hours. not that we were complaining.
